You are so right! The family picnic was a summer Sunday standard in our family as well. Getting together with all my aunts, uncles and cousins for the day was special and still evokes smiling memories. Money was scarce, but with each family sharing and bringing 'potluck' dishes, a feast was always at hand.

I think our parents knew how to have fun without a financial expense, a lesson we could all take with us.

Congratulations on winning the chocolate chip cookie contest! I'll be recommending this book to my friend who has a passion for cooking and recipes. As a matter of fact you can find her at http://www.CookingNook.com

My daughter and son-in-law gave me this great book for Christmas 2008, and I love it!
I have used it over and over.
The best thing about it is I entered a contest where they were looking for the best chocolate chip cookie, and I made the Big and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies and I won the contest!
I won a Kitchen Aide mixer! I continue to enjoy this wonderful cookbook almost everyday, and those cookies really are the best!
I love the idea of taking the page out of the binder. I place it in a clear plastic bag to keep it clean while I am baking or cooking.
I love the idea of the helpful hints on the tools, pans, and gadgets that are tested. I have actually purchased some new products for my kitchen!
The best cookbook I have ever owned. It would make a great wedding or housewarming gift!

I'm shocked at the reviewer who gave 5 stars to the book. Not that she/he gave 5 stars - it's a fantastic book. But that they think Jonathan Adler has any Regency influence in his eclectic style, and, that you reference the use of Regency influences (which dates to the early 1800's) to America's Colonial Period, which dates to the 1600's. Um... maybe you need to learn a little history first. Monticello and the White House are classic Federal and Greek Revival styles. Regency (Empire in France) was slightly later in the Greek Revival era. So, no, American Colonial did not have Regency influences.
